Clay Middleton Launches “Shaping 116 Together” Platform

Community-Informed Agenda Focuses on Everyday Affordability and Quality of Life

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Clay Middleton, Democratic candidate for South Carolina House District 116, today announced the launch of his campaign platform, Shaping 116 Together, a community-informed agenda designed to address the real challenges facing families across the district.

“I’ve spent months listening to people across District 116, and I keep hearing the same thing: families are feeling squeezed, and they want leadership focused on making life more affordable and more manageable,” said Middleton. “Service means listening and delivering, and that’s what this platform is built to do.”

At its core, this platform is about protecting the Lowcountry for the people who built it and the people who call it home today—by lowering costs, improving daily life, and making sure growth doesn’t push out existing communities.

The platform is organized around key priorities:

  • Affordability & Livability: Lowering everyday costs, protecting homeowners from sharp tax increases, and expanding access to health care
  • Traffic & Infrastructure: Reducing congestion, addressing flooding, and improving connectivity and safety across communities
  • Public Education: Investing in public schools, increasing teacher pay, and ensuring strong, transparent curriculum standards
  • Responsible Growth: Protecting long-time residents, preserving community character, and holding developers accountable
  • Land & Water Protection: Safeguarding the Lowcountry’s natural resources and promoting sustainable growth
  • Serving You: Providing responsive, accessible leadership focused on constituent needs and real results

Throughout the campaign, Middleton will release a series of weekly policy proposals that provide deeper detail on each priority area. He will also host “Conversations with Clay,”  a series of community focused resource roundtables across the district to highlight a shared vision for District 116.

“These policies are not empty talking points, they are actionable solutions and opportunities to make a lasting impact in District 116.” Middleton said. We’ll keep listening and focusing on what matters, and that won’t stop once I’m in office.”
