South Carolina AFL-CIO Endorses Democrat Mac Deford for Congress in South Carolina’s First Congressional District

Charleston, SC – Mac Deford, U.S. Coast Guard veteran, attorney, and candidate for Congress in South Carolina’s First District, today received the formal endorsement of the South Carolina AFL-CIO. The organization represents tens of thousands of working South Carolinians, the construction workers building our communities, the men and women serving veterans at our VA hospitals, the paper mill workers keeping our manufacturing economy running, and countless others who form the backbone of the Lowcountry’s workforce.

The endorsement recognizes Deford’s commitment to the issues that matter to working people: access to good jobs, fair treatment on the job, quality healthcare, strong public schools, and a retirement they can count on after a lifetime of hard work.

“Working people across South Carolina need leaders who understand the challenges facing workers and families,” said the South Carolina AFL-CIO in its endorsement statement. “Your commitment to these values and your willingness to stand with working people have earned the support of our labor movement. We believe your leadership will help move South Carolina forward and ensure that the voices of working people are heard at every level of government.”

The South Carolina AFL-CIO pledged the active support of its affiliated unions and labor activists to mobilize working families across the district throughout the campaign season.

“I’m grateful and humbled to earn the support of the men and women of the South Carolina AFL-CIO,” said Deford. “These are people I see every day in the Lowcountry — the roofer on a job site in Johns Island, the nurse in our VA hospital system caring for veterans like me, the postal worker who has given decades to our community. Their work is the foundation of everything we have here, and they deserve a representative in Congress who knows that and won’t forget it. I’m running to be that representative for every working person in SC-01, and I’m honored to have the backing of the people who make this place what it is.”
